Manchester City are now considering a move for Kaoru Mitoma after Arsenal’s interest in the winger was turned down by Brighton.
According to a report in The Sun on Sunday (6/8; page 68), the Japanese international has yet to sign a new five-year contract with the Seagulls.
Kaoru Mitoma was one of the Premier League’s biggest surprises last season. As Roberto De Zerbi’s side swept the division, his dribbling ability caused numerous problems for defenders.
Unsurprisingly, he is generating a lot of attention. In fact, The Sun on Sunday (6/8; page 68) reports that Manchester City are interested in signing the 26-year-old after signing Josko Gvardiol.
Interestingly, the report adds that Arsenal and Chelsea have both had their interest in Mitoma turned down by Brighton, who are looking to keep most of their best players ahead of the new season.
Mitoma’s contract at Amex Stadium expires in just over two years. Brighton are hoping to sign the winger to a new five-year contract. But he has not signed anything, giving City residents hope of a deal.
It will be interesting to see if City’s interest entices Arsenal. In this window, Mikel Arteta’s men have already sprung some major surprises. Few would have predicted that Kai Havertz would be targeted before the summer. And their interest in David Raya would have surprised some.
Mitoma is an ‘incredible’ performer who wowed audiences last year. So he could be one of the players to watch in the transfer window’s final weeks.
