The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a policeman in Konkiyel village of Darazo Local Government Area.
The police officer identified as PC Bala Nazifi Magaji was attached to Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters until his death.
He was reportedly attacked on July 25, 2023, while on active official duty at Anguwar Abuja in Konkiyel village.
Consequently, an investigation by the command led to the arrests.
The principal suspect was identified as Aminu Mohammed, 35, of Anguwar Sarkin, Baka Konkiyel village.
The other suspects are Abdullahi Abubakar, 23, of Bakin Kasuwa, Konkiyel village, and Balarabe Abubakar, 34.
Their arrest was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil on Wednesday.
According to him, the suspects confessed to the gruesome killing of the officer with a machete and sticks.
Aminu Mohammed was alleged to have confessed that they took advantage of the dark hour and stabbed the officer multiple times in the back with a machete, while other accomplices used stones and sticks to hit him in the head, which led to his death after he sustained multiple injuries.
Wakil said efforts are ongoing to arrest six other members of the gang who are on the run.
In another story, Police on Wednesday arraigned Aminu Nura, 45, and John Matthew, 34, before a Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly demolishing a church building unlawfully.
The defendants, who were staff of Dantata Town Development Company Limited, Kubwa, Abuja, allegedly committed the offences in December 2022.
The duo were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, mischief and criminal trespass.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
