  • President Tinubu is content with the commission’s progress, recognizing the census’s importance in shaping the nation’s future
  • The postponement allowed the commission to refine processes for the first-ever digital census

The 2023 population and housing census is set for action, with the National Population Commission (NPC) indicating its readiness, pending directives from President Bola Tinubu to commence the operation.

Clifford Zirra, the NPC federal commissioner in Adamawa, shared this insight during an interactive session with a media executive in Yola on Wednesday, detailing the progress made in preparing for the census.

Zirra highlighted President Tinubu’s satisfaction with the commission’s accomplishments and emphasized the census’s crucial role in shaping the nation’s trajectory.

“The commission welcomes the decision of the federal government on the postponement of the conduct of the census in order to give the new administration the opportunity to have input in the census process,” he said.

The postponement has provided an opportunity for the commission to refine its processes and systems, particularly for the inaugural digital census.

Furthermore, Mr. Zirra revealed that the commission has completed essential preparations, including enumeration area demarcation, pre-tests, field staff training, and nationwide ICT infrastructure setup.

Marking the 2023 World Population Day, the commission embraced the theme “Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality: Uplifting the Voices of the Women and Girls to Unlock Our World’s Infinite Possibilities”.
