Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced free medical treatment for traditional leaders in the state.
Kefas announced Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, at the state Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
He stated that traditional leaders with first, second, or third-class status could seek treatment at any hospital of their choice, with the state government footing the bill.
The health of our royal fathers is very important, and I am committed to their welfare, especially as it relates to the grassroots, said the governor.
Mr Emmanuel Bello, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, said the governor’s gesture was consistent with his respect for traditional rulers.
Why Naira is in free fall – CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that the continuous fall of the Naira against dollars is not unconnected to the present unofficial diaspora remittances.
The acting governor of the apex bank, Folashodun Shonubi, disclosed on Thursday at National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja.
At the event, Shonubi delivered a Distinguished Personality lecture titled: “Diaspora Remittances and Nigeria Economic Development” for members of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 16.
On Wednesday, the naira fell to an all-time low of N925/$1 at the parallel market as demand for foreign currency skyrocketed far beyond what supply could meet.
This followed the unification of the foreign exchange regime, which is a clear departure from what was obtained during the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration.
But Shonubi explained that many diaspora remittances came to Nigeria in dollars, and they were not recorded officially, as such, found their way to black or parallel markets.
With those remittances, the dollars have come in, we know the dollars have come in but we don’t see them in the official system. So, they must be going somewhere and somewhere.”
And the challenge with the black market, unofficial market or parallel market or whatever name you want to call it, it is as a result that it is not regulated, and it becomes an easy place to have criminal activities.
