  • Evidential link established between criminals and fatal shooting of Neighbourhood Watch Group security personnel on July 21, 2023, at Umuagama

On Friday, the Enugu State Police Command reported the elimination of three members of the Eastern Security Network, an offshoot of the Indigenous People of Biafra, within the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.

The operation, led by a combined team of police Special Forces and officers from the Igbo-Eze North Police Division, resulted in the neutralization of the criminals during a gunfight at their camp in the Imufu region of the council on Thursday.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, conveyed this information in a statement distributed to Enugu-based journalists. He further revealed that the clash led to the demise of three outlaws, while others managed to escape with varying gunshot injuries.

The recovered items from the operation included four pump action guns, a locally crafted revolver gun, a pistol, 67 live cartridges, military camouflage uniforms, IPOB insignia fabrics, suspected amulets, and other potentially incriminating pieces of evidence.

Moreover, preliminary investigations established a link between these criminal elements and the fatal shooting of two Neighbourhood Watch Group security personnel on July 21, 2023, at Umuagama in Enugu-Ezike community. The group had also attempted to enforce illegal sit-at-home orders in different parts of the council.

In response to the operation’s success, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Ammani reaffirmed the commitment of the command to eradicate persistent criminal activity within the state.

He applauded the operatives for effectively executing the mission and encouraged all officers to maintain their resolve and dedication.

The statement concluded with an appeal for continued support from the state’s citizens in the ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements from society.
