The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a man named Monday Chukwuka, accused of selling his one-day-old grandchild for N700,000. The police arrested him in Ibafo, Ogun State, based on reliable information.
During the suspect’s presentation at the command headquarters in Ibadan, Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso revealed that on July 10, 2023, they received a credible tip about the kidnapping of a newborn girl named Sarah Chukwuka from her young mother in Oyo town.
The baby was sold to a criminal group running a baby factory in Abia State. Monday, the biological father of the teenage mother, admitted to taking the baby and selling her.
He explained how he took the baby and sold her in Abia State. During a raid at the baby factory, other suspects, including Popoola Bunmi and four accomplices, were apprehended, along with birth certificates and delivery equipment.
Monday sold the baby to afford a shop and goods, claiming he couldn’t care for his daughter and the baby.
The teenage mother, unaware of her father’s intentions, believed the baby was being nurtured temporarily.
The alleged buyer, Favour Chukwuka, claimed she purchased the baby for a childless couple and received N50,000, while the rest of the money was given to Monday.
The police also arrested other suspects involved in armed robbery, secret cult activities, car theft, and receiving stolen goods.
