Don’t Despair, Obi Tells Nigerian Youths

The country's current political and economic challenges should not discourage young people

Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the recent general elections, has urged Nigerian youths to remain optimistic and hopeful for the arrival of a new Nigeria based on youth development and productivity.

Obi made this call in his message to commemorate International Youth Day this year.

According to him, the country’s current political and economic challenges should not discourage young people but rather inspire them to stay committed and steadfast in the fight for a new and better Nigeria.

Unless we remain committed to the struggle for a better nation, we will not be able to achieve the New Nigeria of our dreams. We must remain resilient and persevere against every hardship and obstacle on our journey to a new nation, Obi said.

According to the former Anambra governor, many of the nation’s challenges will be overcome if leaders prioritise youth development and productivity.

He attributed the high unemployment rates among the young population in their productive ages to the high level of insecurity and social vices associated with youths, such as drug and other substance abuse, and the country’s high inflation rate.

He said;

It’s only by providing job opportunities and massively supporting the growth of small businesses in the country, that the challenge of high insecurity, rising inflation, etc will be taken care of.
