- Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract with Leicester City is expiring soon, and his future at the club remains uncertain
- Italian coach Enzo Maresca emphasized the need for discussions with the player to clarify the situation and understand his desire
Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho is being scrutinised by fans and rival clubs.
In recent times, the Nigeria international striker has been outstanding for the King Power club.
They were the Foxes’ most productive front-line pairing in their history, thanks to his flawless partnership with legendary forward Jamie Vardy.
Furthermore, the Foxes’ man is stylistically versatile and a clear goal threat in every game.
However, ‘Seniorman’ has only one year left on his current contract, and Leicester has yet to give Iheanacho a starting spot.
In response to questions about Iheanacho’s future, Italian head coach Enzo Maresca emphasised the club’s, his own, and the player’s positions.
This is one of the things is on the table. It’s one of the things we need to discuss with the player. Most of the time we think about the club but we need to see the desire of the player… player, club, and manager. It’s one of the things we need to do soon to clarify the situation, Maresca said.
Clearly, Leicester themselves want to discuss extending the player’s stay at the club.
However, to Maresca, the situation remains unclear as the player is yet to show a desire either to stay with the Foxes or to find the exit door.
Kele played against Coventry, very good. He played the other day, goal, assist. It’s one of the things I said from day one that to realise something important… but we also need to know the desire of the player.
