A devastating ambush on a military convoy in Niger state has left at least thirty personnel of the Nigerian army dead.

The incident occurred on Monday morning around 5am between Zangiwa and Kangara in the state, SaharaReporters quoted a military source as saying.
According to the source, an army major and two lieutenants with one identified as Y. Alkali were among the victims.
“Nigerian army this morning lost about 30 soldiers, they were ambushed by bandits. One major, two lieutenants were among the victims. In fact, they set some of them ablaze inside the Hilux vehicle,” a soldier told SaharaReporters.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesperson, for comment were unsuccessful as he didn’t respond to his messages sent to him.
In a related development, a Nigerian Air Force aircraft on Monday crashed en route to Niger State
The aircraft departed Kaduna for Minna, the Niger state capital when the incident occurred, PUNCH quoted a source as saying.
However, it is immediately unclear whether there were casualties from the mishap as other details about the incident still remain hazy as of the time of filing this report.
Also, the Nigerian Air Force has not made an official statement on the incident nor has the Air Force spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, spoken about.
