JUST-IN: FG Makes Oral Application To Withdraw Charges Against Emefiele

Government seeks dismissal of firearms possession case against former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) suspended governor, is accused by the federal government of illegally possessing firearms.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.

On Tuesday, the federal government made an oral application to drop the charge before the federal high court in Ikoyi.

On July 25, Emefiele was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms at a federal high court in Ikoyi.
