- Incident occurred during inauguration of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital near Emir’s palace
- Protestors disrupted the event with slogans like “new governor, new Emir,” calling for Emir’s replacement by Governor Abba Yusuf
On Monday, the Kano State Police Command announced the initiation of a manhunt for individuals who had engaged in chanting provocative slogans directed at the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Sunday.
This information was shared by the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Gumel, during a press briefing in Kano.
The individuals in question had caused a disturbance in public during the inauguration of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, located near the Emir’s palace.
These protestors had organized themselves disruptively, uttering inflammatory slogans against the Emir, who was present at the event.
Their slogans included phrases like “new governor, new Emir,” as they urged Governor Abba Yusuf to replace the current Emir with a new one, citing the recent change in government leadership.
Gumel stated that the police utilized technology to identify the individuals involved and noted that efforts would continue to trace down more individuals, including those providing sponsorship.
He said, “Those people were not invited to the event. They were intruders who came on their own, and they must have been sponsored by somebody or a group of persons.
“Six persons have been identified. We used technology to track them down. We are still analysing the video footage, and we are making efforts to arrest all those involved. We are also making efforts to get their sponsors.
“Traditional institution is a respectable institution; anybody who messes around with the traditional institution is a saboteur and an enemy of the state.”
Gumel also said no fewer than 100 repentant criminals had surrendered to the police with their weapons in the state within the past three months.
