Usman Yakubu-Yaro, the NYSC coordinator in Sokoto State, has appealed to the state government for a substantial improvement in the infrastructure of the permanent orientation camp.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members in Wamakko Local Government Area, Mr. Yakubu-Yaro encouraged the corps members to initiate viable projects that would have a positive impact on their host communities throughout their service year.
He emphasized that such efforts would significantly contribute to the development of Nigeria.
The coordinator applauded the Sokoto State government for its punctual disbursement of allowances to serving corps members and its efforts in enhancing the infrastructure at the orientation camp.
While advising the corps members, he cautioned them against accepting free rides as it could expose them to criminal activities. He also urged them to avoid unnecessary journeys during their service year and emphasized the importance of honesty, relationship-building, and integrity in their interactions.
Mr. Yakubu-Yaro stressed that the skills acquired during their time would become valuable assets that would prove beneficial in their future endeavors.
He mentioned that Sokoto State had received 1,750 corps members, with 1,370 already reporting to the camp. He encouraged the corps members to diligently participate in Skill Acquisition Empowerment Development (SAED) programs, highlighting the scarcity of traditional office jobs in today’s world.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bello Sifawa, lauded the NYSC scheme for its remarkable role in nation-building. He attributed its success to the dedication, contributions, and innovative ideas of the corps members in promoting national unity.
Governor Aliyu urged the corps members to undertake meaningful community projects, steer clear of areas prone to insecurity, and actively contribute to the state’s development as outlined in the administration’s nine-point agenda.
A’isha Hassan, the NYSC state governing board chairman, advised the corps members to fully engage in the camp’s training to prepare themselves for productive futures.
The oath of service was administered to the corps members by Justice Maryam Sifawa.
