Army Probes Driver’s Murder By Rogue Soldiers

The Nigerian Army has commenced investigation into alleged killing of driver in Lagos

The Nigerian Army announced that it had opened an investigation into the suspected murder of a driver named Mr. Lawal by individuals wearing military uniforms.

The late driver’s family had complained about the purported murder of their breadwinner last Thursday in Lagos.

Despite the lack of details surrounding the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, stated that an inquiry is ongoing.

According to the statement, the Division will conduct the inquiry alongside the Lagos Police Command. If the suspects are found to be active-duty military personnel, they will be subject to the full force of both military and civil laws, the statement added.

“While the matter is under investigation, Headquarters 81 Division requests the family of the deceased to exercise patience and wait for the outcome of the investigation as whoever is found wanting will be made to face disciplinary action,” the statement said.

The Army reiterated its zero tolerance for troops’ misconduct or involvement in any form of criminality.

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Maj Gen MT Usman, commiserated with the family of the victim while promising that justice would be served accordingly.
