Nigerian representatives in the CAF Champions League are preparing for the preliminary rounds to begin this weekend, as hostilities erupt across the continent.
As the continent prepares for the upcoming clashes, attention turns to the two Nigerian representatives – Enyimba, the reigning NPFL champions, and Remo Stars, the league’s runners-up.
The People’s Elephants have already made history as two-time CAF Champions League winners. Remo Stars, on the other hand, are set to make their debut on this grand stage after previously appearing in the CAF Confederation Cup three times.
Enyimba will face Ahli Benghazi of Libya in the first round of the CAF Champions League. The squad will travel to foreign soil for the first leg on Sunday, led by Finidi George. The focus of the match shifts to Aba a week later for the rematch. The winner of this match will face the winner of the match between Cameroon’s Coton Sport Garoua and Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosa in the next round.
In the meantime, Remo Stars will play Ghana Premier League champions Medeama FC in their own match on Sunday (today). Interestingly, both teams are making their tournament debuts, which adds to the excitement.
The first leg will be held in Medeama, while the second leg will be held in Ikenne, Ogun State. The winner of the match will face Horoya FC of Guinea for a spot in the group stage.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s team will be ready to show off their abilities and tenacity on the road, hoping to return home with a positive result to build on in the second leg.
Medeama SC captain Vincent Atingah Addae believes his team is prepared for the match against Remo.
According to Atingah, the team is focused on the task at hand and hopes to secure a convincing victory.
Well, our preparations have been good and with the support of the technical men, we’re good to go, he told a press conference.
We just have to keep it short and simple, we are hoping for a good convincing win.
