Subsidy removal palliatives: Gov Fintiri constitutes 20-member distribution committee

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has set up a 20-man implementation committee to coordinate the distribution of palliative items to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the people of the state.

A statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the committee is comprised of various organisations, agencies, groups, and Individuals.

The statement on Sunday evening stated that the items to be distributed in the first instance include grains and other foodstuffs.

The committee has Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Awwal Tukur, as chairman.

Committee members include two first-class chiefs, two National Assembly members, two members of the state House of Assembly, the state’s Commissioner of Humanitarian Services, and the Head of Service.

Other members include the state chairman of ALGON, commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade Yola, commander of Air Force Base Yola, Commissioner of Police, director of DSS, and commandant of NSCDC.

Members of the committee also include representatives of CAN, Muslim Council, NUJ, NLC, TUC, and NCWS.

An official of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) is to serve as secretary of the committee.

The statement from Government House, Yola, however, did not specify where the palliative would come from. But Adamawa State, like all other states, will receive a five billion naira fuel subsidy removal handout from the Federal Government.
