- Senator Aliyu Wamakko adds 17 more students to his scholarship list for undergraduate studies at the University of Lahore, Pakistan.
- Wamakko has sponsored over 600 students, spent over N819 million, and established North-West University in Sokoto.
Former governor of Sokoto State and incumbent Senator Aliyu Wamakko has added 17 undergraduate students to his scholarship list to study at the University of Lahore, Republic of Pakistan, as part of his philanthropic efforts to ensure the provision of quality education for indigent children in the state.
While the first batch of 25 students sent to study undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Pakistan graduated with honours, the remaining 17 students will pursue various degree programs, primarily in the sciences, information technology, and engineering, among other fields.
Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has spent over N819 million Naira on sponsoring 600 poor and less privileged children to study within and outside the country between 2015 and 2023.
At a press conference, the duo of Almustspha Abubakar Alkali and Ahmed Baba Altine, Director of Administration of the Senatorial District liaison office and Ahmed Baba Altine, Senior Legislative Assistant to Senator Wamakko stated that the senator also sponsored 116 students to study various courses in the US, UK, Cyprus, Malaysia, and Bangladesh during the period.
Wamakko currently has students studying under his scholarship at Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, Al-Qalam University in Katsina State, Lead City University in Ibadan, Oyo State, Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State, and Crown Hill University in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Others are studying at Maryam Abacha American University in Maradi, ISFOP in Benin Republic, Islamic University in Uganda, Sudan Academy for Aviation Sciences and Technology, and Islamic University of Niger in Saye, Niger Republic, all outside of Nigeria.
Wamakko has also sponsored the first and second batches of 54 students to pursue postgraduate degrees (Masters and PhDs) in various fields at the Nigeria Defence Academy in Kaduna, Kaduna State.
Wamakko has recently established Sokoto State’s first private university, North West University, Sokoto, which has begun academic activities with 200 students.
