After impoverishing over 100m in 8 years, APC-led FG promises to lift 133m Nigerians out of poverty

After plunging 133m Nigerians into poverty in 8 years, the All progressive congress-led federal government is promising to lift them out of penury.

Dr Betta Edu, the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, l said the Federal Government plans to lift 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.

Edu disclosed this on Monday after the resumption of office while speaking with heads of agencies under the ministry.

According to her, the FG can only achieve this through different interventions and initiatives to reduce poverty.

“What is most important is that we will keep our focus on lifting 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.

“We can do it in phases, a step at a time because with determination and strong will, nothing is impossible”, she said.

Recall the National Bureau of Statistics disclosed that 65 per cent of Nigerians are multidimensionally poor.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, during his administration, had promised to lift 100 million Nigeria out of poverty, an objective he could not achieve.

However, about 133 million Nigerians were plunged into poverty in the eight years of his presidency.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Edu has now taken over from Sadiya Umar Farouq to address poverty-related challenges that Nigerians face.
