- Interior Minister Tunji-Ojo warns paramilitary chiefs of accountability for agency violations; emphasizes leadership, change, and results
- Minister emphasizes front-line leadership, accountability of agency heads, and commitment to positive change in Ministry of Interior
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, has warned the ministry’s paramilitary service chiefs that he will hold them accountable for any violations in their agencies.
Tunji-Ojo delivered the charge on Monday, when he addressed the heads of the agencies under the Ministry’s supervision.
While charging them to carry out their duties in accordance with the law, he stated, “I am here to work, but in order to work, we must have a good environment.” This ministry’s work has an impact on everyone, rich or poor.
I don’t lead from the back, I lead from the front. We will try, we will do our best to provide leadership, built on the foundation of your support.
I do not inherit enemies and I do not inherit friends. I make my own enemies and I earn my own friends. I am here to make a change and I am here to deliver results and I need you to help me to do that.
Just as Mr President will hold me accountable for whatever happens in the Ministry of Interior, I will never hold your subordinates responsible for anything; I will hold you responsible for anything that goes wrong, he added.
I don’t need to be footballer to be sports minister – Enoh
The new Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has replied critics who questioned his ability to deliver, insisting he mustn’t be a footballer to provide leadership for the sports sector.
Stakeholders in the sector expressed shock at the appointment of the 57-year-old by President Bola Tinubu last Wednesday, saying Enoh, a farmer and politician, had no connection with sports.
I do not think that you need to be an active participant, that you need to be either a footballer or this or that for you to be Minister of Sports Development, I do not think so, Enoh said.
I think what is required is who can provide leadership, who can provide direction, who can be transparent, who can understand this sector, and there is no how that anybody appointed here will not try to understand this sector.
