Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is not in a hurry to renew the contract of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen’s comments following Napoli’s 3-1 win over Frosinone on the opening weekend of Serie A suggested that a contract extension was not imminent.
“The president is the boss,” said the striker, who scored two of his team’s three goals to start the season. We’re still negotiating and’ll see what happens at the end of the transfer window.
For now, I am a Napoli player, which is the most important thing. I will give my heart and soul to this team as I’ve always done in the past. We’ll see what happens, Osimhen said.
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere del Mezzogiorno, De Laurentii is not in a hurry and is calm about the situation.
The Nigerian striker has been offered more than €10 million per season, with a release clause of around €150 million. Osimhen’s current contract expires in 2025, which explains why the Italian club president is confident in his ability to keep him.
Last season, the Super Eagles forward was one of the best players in Europe’s top five leagues.
With his brace against Serie B champions Frosinone over the weekend, Osimhen now has 25 goals in 29 games for club and country in 2023.
In response to his 2023 statistics, the UEFA Champions League hailed Osimhen on Monday evening, posting his statistics with clapping emojis on their verified Twitter handle, stating, “A big 2023 so far for club and country, Victor Osimhen.”
