The federal government has promised to modernize passport processing and eliminate all bottlenecks.
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, disclosed this in a video broadcast over the weekend, where he reaffirmed his commitment to carrying out President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He stated that the ministry’s agenda component is a transformative plan to revamp immigration services, correctional services, and other critical areas within the ministry.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that his priority would be to ensure that the government’s promises are translated into meaningful action that improves the lives of Nigerians.
We will do all that we can, all that is within our capacity, to ensure that we do not disappoint him [President Tinubu], in terms of the implementation of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, he said.
The minister directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to treat applicants with dignity in all of its passport offices, including those outside the country.
On the Correctional Service, he stated that his administration would work to decongest the facilities while also giving inmates the opportunity for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Tunji-Ojo also commented on proposed fire service reforms, saying, “We would do everything within our power as a ministry to ensure that there are key reforms in our fire service centres, turn around the response time of our fire service to under 15 minutes.”
The minister also promised that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) would protect national infrastructure effectively.
