- Tinubu emphasizes eliminating poverty and collaborating with private sector leaders for Nigerian prosperity
- Despite present difficulties, Tinubu believes his impactful decisions will lead to eventual growth
President Bola Tinubu has asserted that the current challenges faced by Nigerians are a sacrifice made for the betterment and prosperity of future generations.
Speaking at the opening of the annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja, Mr. Tinubu emphasized that achieving the desired state of the nation requires the implementation of reforms initiated by his administration.
Mr. Tinubu elaborated that the path to prosperity for Nigerians hinges on the elimination of poverty from society, a goal that demands close collaboration between private sector leaders. He holds the belief that the impactful decisions undertaken during his tenure will propel the country towards growth, even if the current population experiences difficulties, with eventual benefits to come.
“It is painful at the beginning, in the short and medium term, but we must do what we have to do to take this nation to its great destiny,” said the president.
“It is not about you, and it is not about me. It is about our generations yet unborn, for whom we must bequeath a great and prosperous country,” he added.
“We must make the very difficult changes that are necessary for our country to get up from slumber and be respected among the great nations of the world,” Mr Tinubu added.
Since his assumption of office on May 29, the hardship citizens faced was compounded by the removal of fuel subsidy, which further resulted in the skyrocketing costs of fuel, transportation, and commodities.
Mr Tinubu, during his inauguration, announced an end to the payment of subsidies on fuel, noting that only the rich were benefiting from the opportunity at the expense of the poor in the country.
