- State Chairman reveals plan for subsidized rice and maize distribution, aims to curb market resale by packaging in branded bags
The Adamawa government has purchased ten buses worth N1,060 billion to address transportation costs due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
Alhaji Auwal Tukur, Chairman of the Palliative Coordination and Distribution Committee, revealed this during a press conference in Yola on Monday, saying that each bus costs about N106 million.
Tukur, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), stated that the buses would assist in addressing the challenges that civil servants, students, and the general public face in paying transportation fares.
According to him, the buses will be on the road immediately after the maintenance office is established.
He confirmed that the state government received N2 billion out of the N5 billion proposed by the Federal Government for each state.
The Chairman stated that the state government would distribute rice and maize to citizens at subsidized prices.
According to him, the government purchased 50 trucks of rice to be distributed ward by ward across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas.
He stated that the items would be packaged in 25kg-branded bags to reduce the likelihood of them being sold in the market, adding, “we are hoping to get the delivery by Tuesday.”
The rice and maize will sell at subsidized prices with a minimum of 50 per cent subsidy, he said.
