Construction workers escape death as two-storey collapses in Lagos

Collapse occurred on late Tuesday due to a failure in the building's supporting base

Construction workers narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation as a two-story building being erected at 17, Olanrewaju Street, Alausa, Ikeja, suddenly collapsed. Miraculously, no casualties were reported.

Swift action was taken by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in Alausa, who arrived at the scene to manage the incident. The collapse occurred on late Tuesday evening due to a failure in the building’s supporting base.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, verified the occurrence, assuring that no lives were lost and that the situation was brought under control. Adeseye explained that a section of the second decking of the under-construction two-story building collapsed due to the collapse of its supporting base.

“The collapse happened at 17, Olanrewaju Street, Alausa, Ikeja to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service headquarters.

“Eventually, the crew was able to rescue the situation and forestall a secondary incident as no one was trapped and all the construction workers on site escaped unhurt.”

Meanwhile, the state government has condoned off the structure for proper investigation into the remote cause of the collapse.
