- Wike clarified that he no longer discusses presidential candidates, and does not discuss whether Obi would have handled Nigeria’s major economic issues better than Tinubu if elected
- Former Anambra State governor Obi and his PDP counterpart are in court to challenge the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision declaring Tinubu as the winner of the election
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), asserted that if Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, had been a superior candidate, Nigerians would have supported him in the general election on February 25, 2023.
On Wednesday, Wike remarked while appearing on the Politics Today programme on Channels Television.
The former governor of Rivers State claimed that in the hotly contested election, he backed President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike claimed he doesn’t discuss presidential candidates any longer.
However, he said, “I don’t discuss presidential candidates any longer; I discuss the economy, the president, what he has to offer.
“If he (Obi) would have been better, Nigerians would have voted for him.”
