- Kanu had earlier told the Federal Government that he will not beg for his release after being cleared by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja
- Ozekhome had raised concern over the deplorable condition of Kanu’s detention facility in the custody of the Department of State Services
President Bola Tinubu is the same as his predecessor, former president Muhammadu Buhari, according to human rights activist and former African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.
He drew the analogy on Thursday after being turned down for a meeting with Nnamdi Mazi, the head of the Indigenous People of Biafra, at the Department of State Services headquarters in Abuja.
He claimed that despite Kanu’s legitimate invitation, he was not allowed to meet the controversial group’s leader.
The former presidential contender claimed the incident marked the second time he had been refused permission to see Kanu in a Facebook post on Thursday.
He wrote, “#FreeNnamdiKanuNow I spend several hours at the @OfficialDSSNG headquarters in Abuja, I was invited by Onyedu @MaziNnamdiKanu to pay him a visit in custody, however, after hours of rigmarole the DSS told me I can’t see him today.
“This is the second time I am being denied lawfully ordered visitation to Mazi since his illegal abduction from Kenya.
“The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime continues to demonstrate intolerance towards lawful agitation for self-determination. Tinubu is not different from Muhammadu Buhari #Revolutiinnow.”
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Kanu has told the Federal Government that he will not beg for his release after being cleared by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
This was stated in a letter from Kanu’s lead attorney, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, dated August 25, 2023.
Ozekhome had expressed worry on the appalling state of Kanu’s detention facility when it was in the Department of State Services’ care.
The lawyer asked the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory High Court to appoint a Magistrate to tour the detention facility.
