Over the past two weeks, armed forces personnel have successfully eradicated 39 terrorists, apprehended 159 individuals involved in terrorism, and managed to free 109 hostages through various operations.
Edward Buba, a major general and the Director of Defence Media Operations, conveyed this information during a bi-weekly press conference on military actions nationwide, which took place in Abuja on Thursday.
Buba detailed that in the North-east, troops from Operation Hadin Kai executed an ambush that led to the capture of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Gwoza and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas of Borno and Yobe, respectively. This offensive prompted certain terrorists to surrender in the Gwoza area, while others were neutralized. The result included hostage rescues and the retrieval of weaponry.
Furthermore, another operation saw the neutralization of 11 terrorists, the arrest of 45 others, and the liberation of 34 hostages. A substantial quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered in the process.
Among the recovered items were six AK47 rifles, one HK21 gun, a GPMG, a fabricated gun, 11 AK47 magazines, 34 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 17 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, one bandolier, seven empty cases of 7.62mm special, five motorcycles, eight mobile phones, and N368,950.
Buba shared that troops also reclaimed one FN rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm NATO, eliminated two terrorists, arrested 11 suspects, and rescued six hostages.
In the North-west, Operation Hadarin Daji forces accomplished the demise of 12 terrorists, the apprehension of 33 others, the liberation of 40 hostages, and the recovery of three AK47 rifles, 18 motorcycles, and three mobile phones.
Additionally, the air component of the military operations executed a tactical interdiction against terrorists in the Sububu Forest of Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State, leading to the degradation of terrorist presence in that location.
