Daniel Bwala, a former Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson in the 2023 presidential election, has stated that an FCT minister is a glorified commissioner.
During an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Bwala stated this in response to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike’s recent attack on the PDP.
He claimed Wike’s primary goal as FCT minister is to intimidate the opposition.
Bwala said;
His core objective in being in the FCT is to intimidate and overreach the opponents, you will see this in the coming days and to use the principles in the Machiavellian.
We are moving toward a one-party system in Nigeria. Most of the problems we see in some African countries are because most of the leaders are trying to make the states practically one-party states. “People massage his (Wike’s) ego to make him feel like he is the governor of the FCT. A minister of the FCT is a glorified commissioner constitutionally.
That is why if FCT were to be a state, it would carry the characteristics, functionalities and capacity of a state.”
Bwala added that the PDP would expel Wike at the appropriate time.
He added;
We hardly react to him because he loves drama; everybody knows that. The party knows what it is doing. At the appropriate time, he would not only be suspended but expelled. Take that to the bank.
NLC To Shutdown Economy Next Week
The Nigeria Labour Congress said on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, that it will begin a two-day warning strike because it believed the government had not done enough to mitigate the impact of eliminating subsidies for Premium Motor Spirit, more commonly known as petrol.
The labour centre organised a countrywide demonstration in August against the Bola Tinubu administration’s alleged “anti-poor” policies towards Nigerians.
The price of PMS increased to N610 per litre when the subsidy was eliminated on May 29, 2023. Eventually, the cost of living rose due to the fuel price increase.
Although the Tinubu administration set up committees to plan the rollout of palliatives for workers, the labour centre noted that the committee had yet to develop the plans.
