To commemorate the opening of the Pan African Postal Union Tower in Arusha, Tanzania, the Nigerian Postal Service has released a N255 commemorative stamp.
This was revealed during the unveiling ceremony on Saturday in Abuja by Sunday Adepopu, Postmaster General (PMG) of the federation and CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST.
Postage stamps are regarded as one of the most efficient ways to provide information about a country’s history on a global scale, according to Adepopu, who was represented by Dr. Thomas Gaja, Director of Planning and Development at NIPOST.
“This Initiative was embarked upon to support the Pan African Postal Union, PAPU with funds to complete its 17-storey Tower project and also Philately stamps to earn revenue for the Organization.
“NIPOST, in conjunction with all PAPU member states, today(Saturday), will release a single Postage Stamp in (N250) denomination to mark the commissioning of the PAPU Tower, Arusha, Tanzania. The stamp has a surcharge of value N5.00,” he stated.
Funmilayo Esiri, NIPOST General Manager Philately, said the stamp is expected to last for six months.
“The Nigerian Version of the Stamp depicts the PAPU Tower in Arusha, juxtaposed with the Zuma Rock, a popular National monument site in Nigeria,” she said.
