- GOC AE Abubakar emphasizes the role of criminal syndicates in Plateau State’s crisis, including arms trafficking, armed robbery, and farm destruction
- Abubakar urges citizens to report suspicious activities to help identify and apprehend criminals; over 60 suspects apprehended in the last month
Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has highlighted the troubling role of criminal syndicates in perpetuating the crisis in Plateau State.
The GOC stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the headquarters of 3 Division, Jos, with traditional rulers and community leaders from 13 districts in Barikin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos South LGAs, and emphasized the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to flush out the criminal elements living among the people.
He claimed that criminal groups engaged in arms trafficking, armed robbery, cattle rustling and poisoning, drug smuggling, and farm destruction continued to exploit tensions and exacerbate the crisis.
He observed that the criminals cut across ethno-religious groups, describing them as organized syndicates.
As a result, he urged citizens to report suspicious activity and provide information that could assist in identifying and apprehending criminals.
In the last month, he said, more than 60 suspects had been apprehended, many of whom had been neutralized, and weapons had been recovered.
