The Super Eagles training camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against So Tomé and Prncipe will open in Uyo on Wednesday.

On Sunday, September 10, the Eagles will face the Selecao at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo in a dead rubber match.

Jose Peseiro’s team enters the game with 12 points from a 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in June, ensuring their place at the AFCON in Ivory Coast next year.

Peseiro, the Eagles’ coach, named a 23-man squad for the game on Sunday, but Alex Iwobi was forced to withdraw due to injury.

However, Gift Orban, Victor Boniface, and Jordan Torunarigha received invitations.

Boniface was invited after scoring twice in Bayer Leverkusen’s 5-1 win over Darmstadt at the BayArena on Saturday.

Orban has had a strong start to the season, scoring six goals in nine appearances for his Belgian club, Gent, while his club teammate Torunarigha, who plays as a centre-back, has also been in good form, scoring a goal and registering an assist in ten games.

Babafemi Raji, the Eagles’ media officer, confirmed that the players would return to camp on Wednesday.

The camp opens on Wednesday and will be expecting most of the players in camp on that day as they’ve been able to travel on Monday and Tuesday. We are expecting a full house from day one. We will keep updating the media about the team’s progress as well as plans for the pre-match conference.

Ahead of their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against So Tomé and Principe on Sunday, September 10, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has given Gent duo Gift Orban and Jordan Torunarigha, as well as Bundesliga newcomer Victor Boniface their first international call-up.

Nigeria will face the Falcons and True Parrots on Sunday in an AFCON qualifier at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Orban has had a strong start to the season, scoring six goals in nine appearances for his Belgian club, Gent, while his club teammate Torunarigha, who plays as a centre-back, has also been in good form, scoring a goal and registering an assist in ten games.

Boniface also had a successful season with his new club, Bayer Leverkusen, after joining from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer.
