- Justice Abba Mohammed, a panel member, is reviewing the lead judgment, addressing preliminary motions that question the petition’s competence
- The party claimed that Tinubu was missponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for nominating Kashim Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate
The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has commenced the delivery of judgment in the petition by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the last presidential election.
A member of the five-member panel, Justice Abba Mohammed is reading the lead judgment but first dealing with some preliminary motions, challenging the competence of some aspects of the petition.
Remember that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate was declared the victor of the hotly disputed election on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Obi and his party are contesting that decision.
Today, September 6, the panel started deliberating the verdict; as of press time, the judgement in Peter Obi and LP’s petition was being read.
In another development, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has thrown out a suit brought before it by the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, seeking the disqualification of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The party had argued that Tinubu was improperly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress, APC, for nominating Kashim Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate for the election.
The opposition party had claimed that Shettima was still the APC candidate for Borno Central Senatorial District on July 14 when he accepted the nomination for vice-presidential candidate.
