JUST-IN: Police Fire Tear Gas At Protesting UNILAG Students, Arrest Two

They are protesting the astronomical fee hike at UNILAG

Students who gathered around the University of Lagos axis to protest the fee increase have been dispersed by a detachment of police officers from the Lagos State Police Command.

To scatter the students, the agents launched tear gas.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was working with a student solidarity organisation opposing the fee increase to organise the demonstration.

They are against UNILAG’s exorbitant fee increase.

In July 2023, UNILAG management raised fees, claiming “prevailing economic realities” as the justification.

It was observed police had stationed their patrol vehicles with their operatives along strategic routes leading to the varsity.

With placards carrying different inscriptions, the protesters also chanted anti-government songs.

It was learnt four protesters including Femi Adeyeye and Philip Olatinwo — were whisked away in the police van.
