Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman (Rtd), the Accord candidate in the upcoming Kogi gubernatorial election, has asked the state government’s All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide a detailed account of how it used the 13 percent derivation funds received from the federal government in the last eight months.
Citizens, according to the former Navy chief, have the right to be informed about their elected leaders’ stewardship to ensure transparency and good governance.
Usman’s campaign council said in a statement signed by its youth spokesperson, Comrade Samuel A Danjuma, that “the call for transparency and accountability underscores the importance of informing the people of Kogi State about the use of these funds, which are intended for the state’s development.”
He added that a comprehensive report on fund allocation and utilization under Governor Yahaya Bello’s leadership is required, especially given recent flooding challenges in the state’s oil-producing region, “underscoring the urgency of addressing local issues through social infrastructure and youth empowerment.”
According to the statement;
This call for accountability aligns with Accord’s vision of using public funds judiciously to address critical concerns like infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and job creation.”
