- The court said that the respondent was not duly sponsored and therefore not qualified to contest on the platform of the Labour Party
The election petition tribunal in Enugu State has nullified the victory of Prof Paul Nnamchi of the Labour Party, representing the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of the state.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Cornelius Nnaji was declared the winner instead.
Nnaji had approached the tribunal, challenging the declaration of Nnamchi as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The court said that the respondent was not duly sponsored and therefore not qualified to contest on the platform of the Labour Party.
The tribunal agreed in its unanimous decision with the petitioner’s claim that the Labour Party’s candidate was not qualified to contest the election.
