Insecurity: Zamfara govt directs security chiefs to deploy heavy security on volatile highways

The Zamfara State Government has directed security personnel to begin serious patrol on volatile highways across the state.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed and issued to newsmen on Friday in Gusau by the Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity to the Governor, Suleiman Bala Idris.

The statement said Governor Dauda had at the last State Security Council meeting expressed serious concern over the security situation in the State.

“He therefore directed the Heads of the security agencies in the State to redouble their efforts towards securing lives and property of the residents”, the statement added.

“Especially on the activities of bandits in some highways, in highways like the Gusau to Funtua road; Magami to Dangulbi, Dan Kurmi to Anka road, as well as Magami to Dansadau road”

The Governor’s Spokesperson noted that deploying heavy personnel on patrols along the Gusau to Funtua road and other flashpoints in the State is one of the strategies employed by the state government to put an end to banditry.

He added that the security personnel on patrol on the volatile highways include the Army, Airforce and the Police.

“At the last Security Council meeting, Governor Dauda Lawal charged the heads of the military and police to deploy CSK armoured and Armored Personnel Carrier, APC vehicles, to constantly patrol all the affected major roads, where the State Government provides them with logistics”

“The mobilisation of security personnel on these volatile highways in the last two days has brought peace as people travel safely”

“The State Government issued a directive to close markets considered as business hubs for rustled cattle. The directive is an important step towards ending this illegal activity and ensuring the safety and security of our communities”

“Furthermore, the government has finished all preparations to commence the recruitment and training of the civilian JTF as approved by the Governor”.
