Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) operatives revealed on Thursday that they successfully rescued a motor boy who was trapped under a fully loaded 40ft container following an accident in Lagos State. Unfortunately, the driver of the container lost his life at the scene.
According to a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, the accident occurred in the vicinity of Wharf Road, opposite the Area B Police Command, heading towards Apapa, Lagos.
Egbetola Sulaiman, an official from LASTMA who led the rescue operation, confirmed that the tragic incident involved a fully loaded 40ft container and a stationary tipper truck without a registration number.
“Egbetola confirmed further that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the 40ft loaded container while on top speed lost control and rammed into another stationed tipper truck with a tyre problem.
“LASTMA officials and other emergency responders were able to rescue a trapped motor boy while the driver of the loaded 40ft container died instantly,” the statement read.
While the body of the dead driver was at the Area B Police Command, the rescued motor boy was immediately rushed to the nearby General Hospital at Apapa for medical treatment.
“Other emergency responders at the accident scene include the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Police, and Nigerian Port Authority,” it added.
However, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, warned truck drivers to always consider other road users and be very careful when driving always.
