- Tinubu departed the capital of India, New Delhi, landed at the Abu Dhabi International Airport at about 10:15pm, UAE local time
President Bola Tinubu, Sunday night, arrived Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he will be interfacing with the country’s leadership on diplomatic issues.
President Tinubu, who departed the capital of India, New Delhi, landed at the Abu Dhabi International Airport at about 10:15pm, UAE local time.
Although Nigeria and the UAE continue to maintain their diplomatic relations, contacts became strained when in October 2022 the Emirate authorities slammed a visa ban on Nigerian after Emirates Airlines suspended flights to Nigeria.
UAE reacted to the failure of Nigeria to repatriate billions of dollars trapped funds belonging to the Emirates Airlines.
However, President Tinubu started mending relations with the country, which has become a choice destination to thousands of Nigerian travellers for various reasons.
Earlier, Tinubu met with leaders of the US, Germany and South Korea on the sidelines of the just concluded G20 summit.
The summit which was held in New Delhi, India, saw Nigeria attend as a guest. It also witnessed the conferment of permanent member title on the African Union.
Announcing the meeting with Mr Tinubu, the White House in a release said “President Joe Biden met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu today on the sidelines of the G20 in New Delhi, India to reinforce our enduring commitment to the U.S.-Nigeria relationship and to the longstanding friendship between our two countries and peoples.”
While commending Mr Tinubu’s economic reforms in Nigeria and “strong leadership” in ECOWAS, Mr Biden said Nigeria’s invitation to the G20 Summit is a recognition of Nigeria’s important global role as Africa’s largest democracy and economy.
According to a separate statement shared by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngalale, Mr Tinubu also met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with whom he discussed economic partnership between Nigeria and Germany.
During the meeting, Mr Scholz notified the Nigerian president of his desire to visit Nigeria in October.
President Tinubu also met with South Korea’s President, Yoon Suk Yeol, to discuss similar kinds of partnerships.
