Gunmen reportedly seized control of two fully loaded buses operated by Benue Links, a transport company based in Benue State. Approximately 10 passengers were abducted during the incident.
The event transpired on a Sunday between 2pm and 3pm when the buses, coming from Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, and headed for Lagos, were intercepted along the Ajaokuta/Okene road in the outskirts of Kogi State.
According to reports, the armed individuals laid an ambush for the two vehicles, successfully intercepting them and subsequently leading ten passengers into the nearby bush.
A Benue Links transport company employee, who preferred not to disclose his name but was authorized to speak on behalf of the company, confirmed the unfortunate incident, stating, “It is true the incident happened along Ajaokuta/Okene road yesterday between 2pm and 3pm.
“Two vehicles were involved, and ten passengers were abducted. The incident was reported at Adogo Police station near Okene.”
The official appealed to the government to beef up security along the road for adequate surveillance.
