Adamawa man kills brother accused of witchcraft

In Adamawa state, one John Clerkson has killed his brother who was accused of witchcraft.

Clerkson reportedly accused his now late 57-year-old elder brother, Mohammed Clerkson, of being behind the death of some people in the community.

The incident happened on August 29 in Zarbu in Guyuk Local Government Area of the North East state.

The 42-year-old suspect has since been arrested and currently in the custody of the State Police Command.

It’s gathered that John accosted Mohammed and accused him of bewitching the wife of his own son.

John reportedly followed his elder brother to “catch the spirit” of the wife of his son, Robert Mohammed, but the wife fainted during the purported exorcism.

It was gathered that when news went round that Mohammed was allegedly the witch wreaking havoc on the inhabitants of the community, residents besieged his house with their sick family members, asking him to release them from the ‘spirit of sickness’.

It was further gathered that a brawl ensued between John, the suspect, and his elder brother, Mohammed, when the former demanded explanation concerning the alleged witchcraft.

According to the Police, John, who was arrested after Mohammed died, is claiming that he was not responsible for his brother’s death.

The suspect claimed that Mohammed was stoned to death by youths of the community.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspect would be properly investigated and prosecuted
