Dr. Ayobami Oni, Director of Physiotherapy Services at the Lagos State Health Service Commission, has revealed a shortage of physiotherapists in the state’s hospitals due to the japa syndrome.
During an interview with reporters at the public lecture of the 2023 Health Service Commission Physiotherapy Week with the theme “Anthiriss,” Oni explained that 17 of the state’s 28 secondary health facilities had physiotherapy departments.
We used to have over 100 physiotherapists, but now the number fluctuates between 70 and 80, he said.
He stated that the state government was working to close the gap in the state.
The governor’s wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, earlier stated that the state government’s vision of achieving universal health coverage may not be fully realized if the physiotherapy profession is left behind.
Mrs Folashade Fadare, MD/CEO of Harvey Road Health Centre and Maternity, represented Sanwo-Olu who urged the state’s physiotherapists to perform their duties professionally.
Prof. Rufai Yusuf Ahmad, Registrar/CEO of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), emphasized the importance of revoking practitioners’ licenses who fail to comply with the board’s regulations.
Navy denies fake recruitment exercise
The Nigerian Navy has alerted the general public to ignore a fake and fraudulent advertisement for enlistment into the 2023/2024 Direct Short Service Commission trending in social media.
The Navy said it would usually notify the public through its official website, www.nigeriannavy.mil.ng and other credible verifiable platforms, including mainstream media for the advertisement of such Enlistment Exercises.
A statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore AO Ayo-Vaughan, said, “The attention of the Naval Headquarters has been drawn to a fraudulent online advertisement on the enlistment exercise for Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) into the Nigerian Navy (NN) captioned: Nigerian Navy DSSC Recruitment 2023/2024 Application Form Portal/www.joinnigerianavy.com.
“The false publication advised interested applicants to visit https://www.topnigerianjobs.com/nigeria-dssc-recruitment/ claiming that the Nigerian Navy DSSC Recruitment 2023 portal is currently open for online application.
