- Borno State Governor Zulum unveils 70 new buses for metro transport, aiming to ease commuting for civil servants and the public
- The buses come equipped with modern amenities, with 30 dedicated to transporting civil servants during specified hours
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum unveiled a new fleet of 70 buses for metro transport and to ease the movement of civil servants to their various places of work on Monday evening.
The initiative aims to make commuting easier for government employees and the general public.
The unveiling ceremony occurred at the Borno Express terminus on the Kano-Maiduguri road.
The new fleet of buses, acquired specifically for this purpose, included standard-sized buses and larger buses to accommodate more passengers.
To ensure a pleasant commuting experience, each vehicle is outfitted with modern amenities such as air conditioning and comfortable seating arrangements.
Governor Zulum stated in his remarks that the second phase of the intervention in the transportation sector is to alleviate the suffering caused by the removal of fuel subsidies.
The governor also stated that 30 of the total 70 buses will be dedicated to transporting civil servants to their places of work from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with returns from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
I want you to ensure that these buses start operations tomorrow morning (Tuesday) unfailingly. You should however be mindful of our situation and ensure that you bring down the cost of transportation. Let us consider it as a social service and not as a revenue generation drive, Zulum said to Borno express management.
The governor commended the management for transforming the face of Maiduguri terminus and improving the welfare of the serving and retired staff.
Since he assumed office, the General Manager has been paying entitlements of his staff at due time. This is very commendable, Zulum said.
Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum unveiled newly constructed and remodelled structures at the terminus.
The structures will provide lodging for travellers and business operations such as restaurants and offices.
Mohammed Grema, the General Manager, stated that Borno Express’s internal revenue funded all construction projects.
