The decision For the general elections in 2027, the All Progressives Congress has started the process of electronically enrolling its more than 40 million members.
Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC’s national chairman, made this statement on Wednesday while hosting a delegation of the party’s newly elected Deputy National Officers and National Executive Committee members at the secretariat in Abuja.
Two years ago, the National Caretaker Committee under Mai Mala Buni conducted a statewide membership registration drive that increased the current total to almost 40 million.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Ganduje said that the electronic registration innovation’s main goal is to record the party’s current membership strength.
The APC national chairman also criticised the results of the 2023 presidential election, pointing out that the party received significantly fewer votes than its registered members actually made up.
He said, “If you will recall, we had several 41 million members. But during the presidential election, we had only eight million. What happened to the rest? This is why we need to be digital and ensure that we are working with the correct data.
“Another step that we have taken is that we are reviewing our registration electronically now. The work has already started. You should be ready that all our members will be electronically registered so that we have an exact number physically.”
Continuing, the former Kano governor also revealed that the APC has concluded plans to establish a National Institute of Democratic Studies to help Nigerians shape their pattern of behaviour in alignment with democracy and political ideology.
