- The PDP highlights the absence of a research institute as an obstacle to democratic consolidation in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for research
- The PDI establishment committee aims to develop the capacity of party members to enhance democracy within the party and in Nigeria
According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the lack of a research institute impedes the country’s democratic consolidation.
Ambassador Umar Damagum, acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated this yesterday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) establishment committee.
Addressing committee members and other party stakeholders in attendance, Damagum stated that the party was committed to making the PDI “a hub that can do a lot of research that can develop our democracy within the party and country at large.” Our job is to put it on solid ground so that it can at least contribute to the development of democracy in Nigeria and beyond.”
Taofeek Arapaja, the Deputy National Chairman (South) and Chairman of the committee told reporters after the inauguration that there were many gaps in how democracy worked among party members and Nigeria.
We need to develop the capacity of these people, and by doing that you will deepen democracy in Nigeria; that is the gap that the PDI is expected to fill, he said.
