A motor boy has lost his life in an accident involving a truck he was accompanying, officials in Lagos state said on Tuesday.
The yet-to-be identified assistant driver reportedly fell from the top of the moving truck on Otedola bridge in the Berger bus stop area of the south west state.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), disclosed that the incident happened after the driver lost control of the truck due to brake failure.
in a statement on Tuesday, Taofiq said the truck, which was conveying wheat, overturned due to Tuesday’s heavy downpour.
Taofiq said the fatal accident caused heavg traffic congestion around the Berger area making it difficult for other road users travelling along the 7Up-Berger section to access the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The body of the deceased motor boy was recovered under the Otedola bridge and immediately handed over to Lagos Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) by Lastma officials.
“The truck was fully recovered off the Otedola bridge after the completion of trans-loading of wheat into another truck. The blocked side of the road was reopened for vehicular movement around 5:30pm.
“Other emergency responders at the scene of the accident include LASEMA, SEHMU, Police men from Isheri Police Division and other passersby,” he added
