Anambra police bust kidnappers’ den, rescue victim

The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, made the announcement on Thursday

A kidnapping gang in Nnewi Ichi, Anambra State, has been busted by the police’s Anti-Kidnap Squad and local vigilantes.

The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced on Thursday that the squad received a tip about the kidnappers’ hideout during their patrol with the vigilantes. They promptly raided the location on Wednesday and successfully rescued a kidnapped victim who was then taken to a hospital in Nnewi for medical attention.

He said, “One of the suspected kidnappers was arrested. Operatives recovered one pump-action gun and two locally fabricated hand grenades at the hideout.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, while commending the police operatives and the local vigilante team on this collaboration that has been effective against criminal elements, asked them to sustain the onslaught until crime is reduced to the barest minimum and people can move around in safety.”

Adeoye also commended the Anambra State judiciary for being aware of its responsibility to society.

The commissioner expressed his thoughts after being informed that 34 suspects were recently brought before the court and remanded on charges related to cultism.

He acknowledged that one of the challenges in combating crime has been the tendency for suspects to continue engaging in criminal activities while their previous trials were ongoing.

However, he expressed optimism that with the support of key stakeholders, the fight against crime can be won, making Anambra State an attractive investment destination in the near future.
