At least four persons were killed when rampaging gunmen terrorising Nigeria’s North West attacked Giyawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto state.
Spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that eighteen persons were also abducted.
According to Rufai, the assailants also made away with valuables including livestock.
He, however, said seven of the abducted victims later escaped and returned to the community.
He stated that many residents have fled the community.
He, however, said efforts are being made to ensure that peace and normalcy returned to the community.
Rufai assured that operatives of the Command are on the trail of the assailants.
Although the Police maintained that only 11 persons are still being held by the bandits, a source in the community alleged that over 30 persons were abducted.
