- The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Plateau upheld Idris Wase’s election as the House of Representatives Deputy Speaker
- The tribunal ruled that the PDP petitioner failed to provide evidence supporting irregularity claims against Wase’s election
The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has upheld the election of former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the February 25 poll.
Wase, representing the Wase federal constituency in the House of Representatives, ran on the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform.
Barrister Ibrahim Bawa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed a suit challenging Wase’s election, alleging irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines and requesting that the court declare him the election winner.
Justice Omaka Elekwo, who delivered the decision, ruled that the petitioner could not provide evidence to prove his case or support his claims before the tribunal. As a result, the tribunal upheld the former deputy speaker’s victory as declared by INEC.
