The Central Bank of Nigeria’s succession dispute came to a conclusion on Friday when President Bola Tinubu named Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as the new governor of the apex bank.
Cardoso’s appointment comes as the apex bank conducts a leadership shakeup in the wake of the ouster of Godwin Emefiele as CBN Governor.

A Chartered Stockbroker And Banker
Nigerian banker, chartered stockbroker, and public policy maker Olayemi Micheal Cardoso. He was the commissioner for the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget and the previous chairman of Citibank Nigeria.
Dr. Yemi Cardoso is an expert in finance and development who has worked in the public, corporate, and non-profit sectors for more than thirty years.
Education
Cardoso earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in managing and administrative studies from Aston University. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Career
When President Bola Tinubu ruled as Lagos governor, Cardoso worked as the Commissioner for the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
The Lagos State Economic Summit’s Ehingbeti Summit was founded by him, and he serves as co-chair.
He has also served as the association’s executive lead for alumni of the Harvard Kennedy School.
Cardoso presided over Citibank Nigeria’s board of directors. He joined the Cities Alliance’s Africa Think Tank Group, a team established to address issues related to urban development.
He has served as a board member of MRS Oil and was the chairman of the board of EFinA.
Cardoso is a member of the advisory board of Lagos Business School and chairman of the board of African Venture Philanthropy Alliance
In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in business administration by his alma mater, Aston University, in recognition of “his outstanding contributions to business and society”
