Engineer Sule Abdulaziz, Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), says engineers have resumed work at the TCN power station in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, which was destroyed by an early morning fire on Friday.

The TCN MD, who was at the power station on Friday to assess the extent of the damage, said two states, Kebbi and Sokoto, were affected.

According to the company’s temporary arrangement, it could take two weeks for engineers to repair the damaged power station and restore power to the two states.

He previously stated that the company intended to feed Sokoto from the Talata Mafara power station, while Kebbi would be fed from Sokoto.

He added that the company planned to feed Kebbi from the transformer assigned to Niger Republic in two weeks.

Abdulaziz estimated that the TCN would require $4 million to replace two major transformers, MVA 90 and MVA 60, which were destroyed in the fire.

He stated that while the company could not immediately determine what caused the fire, it had hired experts to investigate and determine what caused it.

While visiting Emir Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi, the MD assured him that power would be restored to the state in no time.

He stated that he and his management team would move quickly to replace the damaged transformers at the power plant.

In his response, the Emir, Alhaji Illiyasu Bashir, urged the TCN to restore power to the state and alleviate people’s suffering.

“No nation can exist without light.” When there is no light, there is no hope. “Do everything possible in a short period of time to bring our people out of the shadows,” the emir said.
