Senator Sa’idu Alkali, Minister of Transportation, stated that the implementation of the presidential approval for the upward review of special allowances for Nigerian railway workers will be prioritized.

He stated that this will improve the welfare of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) employees as well as their effectiveness and working conditions.

The minister made the remarks during a visit to the NRC’s headquarters in Ebute-Meta, Lagos.

According to him, the purpose of the visit was to assess and evaluate the corporation’s performance in terms of managerial coordination and implementation of existing rail infrastructure and ongoing projects, with particular reference to the modernization of the Lagos-Ibadan and Kano-Maradi railways.

The minister assured the NRC’s management of the ministry’s full support in carrying out its statutory functions.

Furthermore, Alkali stated that transportation is a major organ in promoting economic growth in countries around the world, and that he would ensure the completion of the Bola Tinubu Station of the Standard Gauge rail in a very short time.

Earlier, Fidet Okhiria, the NRC’s Managing Director, congratulated the minister on behalf of the entire staff, saying the NRC had faced challenges such as security threats and vandalism of critical infrastructure.
